Mihara Yasuhiro SS2016 Asymmetrical Biker Leather Vest
Like many of his Japanese contemporaries, Mihara Yasuhiro has long obsessed over classic Americana. No other subculture has captured the imagination of Yasuhiro quite like the leather wear of bikers, which have acted as a constant reference point.
This vest showcases Yasuhiro’s ability to invert expectations of am American classic, interwoven with signature punk aesthetics. Seemingly abstract cutouts of curved leather give the vest unique asymmetrical proportions, most notably at the shoulder where one extends outward. Other voids of negative space are filled with mesh fabric with leather piping that softens the hardness of the body and provides ventilation as well as unexpected structure and volume. Silver hardware, including snap buttons, zips, and adjustable buckles are prominent throughout. The large central diagonal zip is offset by smaller spherical pulls at the pockets, while the lapel can be worn down, or snapped up into place for a more streamlined shape.
