Maison Martin Margiela AW2011 Deconstructed Biker Leather Jacket
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
2011 marks two years since Martin Margeila had officially left his namesake label. But Margiela himself insisted since his brand's inception that core to his output was the Maison, not just the work of one man. It came as no surprise then, that following his departure the brand continued to produce commercially successful, singular designs.
This complex leather jacket, part of the Pre-Fall and Autumn/Winter 2011 collections, is characterized by various deconstruction elements typical of the maison. For one, the sleeves are attached by snap buttons at the shoulders, and are completely removable, transforming the jacket into a vest and adding the option to wear the sleeves by themselves as a shrug/bolero. The sleeves featured on the runway and loobook in several looks, acting as a statement layering piece. While attached, they add unusual layering and cutouts to the armholes and rear of the jacket. Double riri zips run along the entire length of the inner sleeves, allowing ventilation and again transforming the silhouette.
Deeply rooted in masculine Americana, the maison takes this wardrobe classic and gives it new meaning by simply removing the sleeves.
