Walter Van Beirendonck AW2020 Tyvek Daisy Pants

$680.00

Walter Van Beirendonck’s Autumn/Winter 2020 collection explored notions of beauty, freedom and expression. Titled, “W:A.R.” - an acronym for ‘Walter About Rights’ - Van Beirendonck used his collection to wage a war for society’s right “to be free to enjoy beauty.” The contemplative designer rallied, “We really have less and less freedom—everything is so sensitive.”

The show itself was typically Walter - loud and colourful - and included bulbous elements and spikes as well as an array of cheerfully bucolic digital prints on lightweight fabrics. Slogans also featured, chief among them “Cherish Creativity, Dare, Create” and “Stop Buying Fast Cheap Fashion Now.” Walter’s intent was clear.

These pants featured in look 39 on the runway with the same floral print - a key motif in the collection - appearing in a variety of colours and silhouettes. Constructed of a lightweight, paper-thin Tyvek material, they are decorated with a floral print of orange transvaal daisies on a power blue base. High-waisted with a wide leg, they have a flowy, rockstar-style fit, while the crinkly fabric seems to almost reflect in the light. The waistband is partially elastic and the gauzy fabric is meant to wear with age, highlighting the fickle nature of beauty in today’s world. The pants are completed with side and rear pockets, and front button fastening.
