PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Romeo Gigli almost singlehandedly contributed to the renaissance of luxurious fabrics in the late 1980s and early 90s. Gigli’s AW1989 show was a marriage of rich velvets, delicate silks and elaborate brocades. Voluminous shawl-collared coats with magnificent drape took centre stage and were complimented by ethereal layering. The collection was described by Marion Hume of The Sunday Times “as the most successful show of the first season of the new decade… it confirmed Gigli's position as the most significant designer of the times.”

Heavily influenced by his travels prior to fashion, Gigli asserted, “my ideas are all from pictures I have in my head from 15th and 16th century books.” His colours were typically bold and romantic, and his creations were uniquely both vital and precious simultaneously.

Gigli’s penchant for fitted, skinny trousers - that could be said to have catapulted the leggings craze of the early 90s - was evident with multiple velvet iterations, including this exact pair, featuring on the runway in burgundy, green, black and gold.

These velvet pants take on a typical jodhpur shape; high waisted and slightly cropped, they have rounded hips - quintessentially Gigli - and cuffed hems. Delicately made of a luxurious velvet, they feature a side zip and button closure as well as front and rear pockets. Characterised by a close fit that follows the lines of the body, they are tulip-like in shape and as ever with Gigli, offer a slight stretch.
