Rick Owens SS2019 Embroidered Vector Hoodie
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Rick Owens’ Spring/Summer 2019 presentation was entitled ‘Babel’, after the biblical tower of the same name. The collection tackles themes of control versus confusion, manifested in sci-fi-meets-Russian-Constructivism and Brutalism. Models walked through billowing, vividly coloured smoke designed to give the feel of a riot. Many of the pieces came stitched with geometric vectors, culminating in the show closing with ‘wearable tents’ - garments given shape with aluminium rods.
This hoodie takes the same graphics and shapes featured in the collection, transforming them into an infinitely wearable wardrobe essential. Embroidered vector lines zig-zag their way across the front body, while a single vertical seam simplifies the rear and hood. The arms are slightly elongated with elasticated cuffs, while the drawstrings are also typically exaggerated. The body itself is largely unstructured and made from lightweight cotton.
