PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

The adidas Stan Smith traces its roots back to the early 1960s. Initially designed as tennis shoes, the first iterations were in fact called the adidas "Haillet". However, in 1973, Adidas sought a new sponsor for the design and opted for prominent American tennis player, Stan Smith to endorse the shoes. From then forth the shoes were referred to as the Adidas "Stan Smith," sparking the now-famous collaboration of one of the world's most celebrated and iconic sneakers.

In 2014, Raf Simons and Adidas teamed up to revitalise the Stan Smith, bringing back the iconic silhouette and recontextualising it in the world of high fashion.

This colourway is the very first in the collaboration and was released amid much fanfare. It featured on the runway, in look 17 of Raf Simons' SS15 collection and was also worn by Simons at the show's finale.

Taking the basic silhouette, Raf upgraded subtle elements while staying true to its history. The fabric was improved to a premium supple leather, while the adidas logo at the rear was replaced with suede. Moreover, the typical three perforated stripes used for ventilation were rearranged into an ‘R’ as a subtle nod to the collaboration. ‘Raf Simons’ is also embossed to one side in small font. The white leather upper is contrasted by a subtle cream coloured sole.

"From the 1970s to the current day, one shoe has been a constant through the decades: the adidas Stan Smith. With its understated looks and versatility, the design has outlasted multiple trends, and graduated from the tennis court, to become a footwear staple and perennial icon."
