Jean Paul Gaultier’s AW99 collection was a retrospective celebration of the 20th century. Models strutted down the runway wearing garments inspired by the constantly changing styles of the past 100 years. Vintage bowler hats and checked sweaters in extravagant fur and sequin were reminiscent of the early-mid century, while black ghostly gowns hearkened back to the more avant-garde 80’s & 90’s. The show ended with an optimistic outlook of the coming millennium, characterized by ethereal and sharply tailored white suits.

This top, with its diamond check design and colour palette references classic sweaters from the early part of the 20th century. Gaultier creates a unique spin on the look by scanning and printing the sweater abstractly onto itself, rendering a three dimensional trompe-l'œil effect.

Constructed from Gaultier’s trademark mesh, the top is lightweight and extremely stretchy. It features a turtleneck and is double layered with a vibrant orange lining, enabling it to be worn reversed for a touch of versatility.

Made in Italy.
