PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Issey Miyake’s SS 2015 show featured a heavy focus on the ocean. Abound with nautical inspired looks and garments with prints of obscure sea creatures, the collection was titled “Tropical Dandies”.

These jeans were Look 36 on the runway and feature a menacing ‘scaly dragonfish’ printed abstractly across the front and back. The print itself is from a photograph taken by Claire Newman, founder of BLOOM, a company dedicated to protecting deep sea life. This, like several other of her photos feature in key looks in the show.

Strikingly life-like in colour, the gripping image is subtle yet vibrant. It has an almost metallic sheen that shows in the light, contrasting well with the indigo denim which acts as the water for the dragonfish to inhabit.

Constructed from a medium-weight crinkle denim, the pants have a wide linear pleat that stretches as the wearer moves to reveal more of the print. ‘Issey Miyake Men’ is engraved in brass hardware on the pockets and fastening button.

For Miyake, who usually lets his shapes and textures do the talking, the overarching use of prints throughout the show was somewhat of an anomaly. Their use here by current designer, Yusuke Takahashi however, was tasteful and refined while still maintaining the brand’s typical unique codes.
