PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Issey Miyake’s AW1998 presentation for men dealt with notions of ‘East Meets West’; an idea that guided the brand for many years and for which a 1978 publication was aptly named. For the show, the two ideologies notably clashed at the use of tailoring and application of graphics.

This jacket, an incredibly rare example from the collection, encapsulates the idea. For one, it is a puffer jacket designed in the shape of a traditional button up mandarin collar shirt; it’s atypical curved hem, button front and cuffs, patch pockets, and the stand collar all contribute to this style. Meanwhile, the graphic motif that features diagonally throughout resembles a ‘Fleur-de-Lis’, closely associated with the French monarch and an icon of the West. On the runway, arrangements of this graphic expanded in size and silhouette, featuring on coats, suits, shirts and gloves to name a few.

The jacket itself is both warm and lightweight thanks to its polyester filling and smooth cupra lining - ideal for the colder seasons. The padding also gives the jacket and pockets added volume. A great and rare jacket in an equally rare size L.
