Issey Miyake AW1995 Chunky Cable Knit Sweater
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Issey Miyake’s Autumn/Winter 1995 collection was, as ever, rife with innovation. Unusual fabrics and fibres contributed to never-before-seen silhouettes that engulfed the wearer. Square duvet coats were presented en-masse, and no doubt provided direct inspiration for Martin Margiela’s AW1999 collection several years later.
The runway consisted of a diverse cast of elderly women, dancers and models, all of which provided their own interpretation as to how the sculptural garments could be adorned.
This sweater was one of the key pieces of the show. In a presentation largely dominated by muted hues, its white and black stripes with bold red collar was a welcome contrast that informed many similar looks including hoodies, cardigans and multiple jackets. Constructed from an extremely chunky cable knit in a wool/acrylic blend, the sweater is warm, breathable, structured, and stretchy all in one. The exaggerated high neck can be rolled up or down for trans-seasonal wear.
