Issey Miyake 132.5 AW2012 Square Batwing Smock

Hailing from Issey Miyake’s AW2012 collection, this raincoat is part of the brands’ ‘132 5.’ line. Launched in 2010, the premise of the line is to acknowledge and play with dimension; turning fabric from the first dimension into a three dimensional shape which can then be folded into a two dimensional structure. The final dimension (5D), according to the brand, arises from the garment’s transformed being that transcends time and dimension itself. Issey Miyake 132 5. also places a strong emphasis on utilising recycled fabrics, with a principle of “Regeneration and Re-creation.”

This raincoat is made entirely from recycled polyester. Oversized, with batwing sleeves, the silhouette has been a trademark of Issey Miyake since as early as the 1970s and draws reference from traditional Japanese garb. Practical, comfortable and with a unique drape, here the classic design receives a modern twist by way of its lightweight and futuristic fabric, and high asymmetrical button collar.

The coat featured in Look 29 of the men’s runway, with similarities in looks 23 and 30.
