PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Gianni Versace’s Spring/Summer 1995 collection was all about the body, skin and femininity. Silhouettes ranged from striking dresses to elaborate bathrobes and beachwear - most with colourful prints from insects, to fruits and florals that added a playful novelty to the show. “I want to make people believe in fashion again,” said Gianni Versace of the collection.

While the fruit prints seen on this vest were typically left to the bags on the runway, Look 6 saw Kate Moss in a lilac dress adorned with large purple-coloured oranges, berries and blue Brunnera flowers. Other recognisable prints on the runway were of butterflies and lady bugs. Famously, model, Kirsten McMenamy wore one of the butterfly print dresses on the cover of Vogue’s April 1995 issue.

Decorated with lines of red, yellow and blueberries on an elegant black base, this vest features two front pockets and a cropped square back. Five ornate gold Medusa buttons fasten the front, while the repeated print and pointed hems have shades of the acclaimed SS1993 Miami collection. Made of mid-weight cotton, the vest has a distinctly tailored, almost corset style, with corsetry being a key focus for the season as a means to enhance the feminine shape.
