PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Upon Gianni Versace’s death in 1997, there was only ever going to be one person to assume the mantle: Donatella Versace. Appointed head of Versace’s Versus line in 1994, Donatella served as both Gianni’s confidante and muse before fusing her close relationship with her brother and her own distinct voice to build upon his illustrious legacy.

Her Spring/Summer 2003 collection was bold and evocative, and every bit a classic Versace show. Colour and sex appeal oozed from brightly colourblocked garments with plenty of skin on show thanks to an abundance of cutouts and slits. Panelled mini skirts and bikinis were complimented by gold punk-like jewellery emblazoned with the initials, “DV”. The collection epitomised Y2K style.

This mini skirt featured in Look 2 of the runway as well as in the brand’s Spring 2003 campaign, shot by acclaimed American fashion photographer, Steven Meisel and modelled by Amber Valletta. The colourblocking was a key motif, while the mix of lime green, magenta, turquoise and pink were central to the collection. Made from a silk crepe, the skirt’s exterior cargo pockets add an unexpected element of practicality to what would typically be a what-you-see-is-what-you-get silhouette.
