COMME des GARÇONS HOMME AW2002 Fair Isle Trim Blazer
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Autumn/Winter 2002 marks the last COMME des GARÇONS HOMME collection overseen by Rei Kawakubo before being taken over by her protege, Junya Watanabe. While more understated than that of the mainlines, elements of the CDG universe seep into every HOMME collection in more wearable pieces for everyday.
The AW2002 collection was an amalgamation of various cultural references, most notable for a number of garments printed with Cuban iconography. On the other hand, inspiration was drawn from traditional Fair Isle knitted patterns - adorned in the form of sweaters and hats by Scottish fishermen since the early 19th century - which featured prominently across various silhouettes, including this blazer. Similar examples were also showcased in the HOMME PLUS, and Junya Watanabe menswear presentations.
The blazer is constructed from workwear inspired dark grey semi-structured denim that has faded naturally with age. It features a three button closure, creating a shorter lapel and shallower V, as well as a slightly boxy and relaxed shape, along with two flap pockets and a slash breast pocket. At the hem, a strip of multi-coloured Fair Isle knitted fabric wraps around the body, adding a fun and distinct point of interest to a silhouette that is often considered strictly formal.
