PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

For Spring/Summer 2005, Rei Kawakubo set out to subvert conventional notions of masculinity through the use of the colour pink. It was only apt then, that the pieces would feature imagery of Peter Sellers’ flamboyant cartoon detective, Pink Panther, after which the collection was named. The show was held in a semi-derelict factory, and models consisted mostly of members of the somewhat obscure British rock band, Cazals. Many acquaintances of the band were present in the audience, and made for a surprisingly raucous presentation.

Sporting shades of pink and fuchsia in every look including jewellery designed by Judy Blame, and exclusive sunglasses by Cutler and Gross, the rocker models were the perfect contrast to Kawakubo’s play on masculinity. The clothes themselves drew inspiration from 1970s style, and included complex psychedelic swirling prints and patchworks, reminiscent of the era.

Seen on the runway in several iterations, this shirt typifies many of the collection's themes. Constructed from the collections signature pink, which morphs into orange checks, it features three contrasting fuchsia pocket panels that evolves a simple button-up into a fun take on a lightweight utilitarian piece. With a boxy cut, wear it as a shirt, an overshirt, a jacket, or a versatile layer all year round.
