COMME des GARÇONS x Filip Pagowski AW2000 Punk Graphic Shorts
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
COMME des GARÇONS’ Autumn/Winter 2000 collection was a stark juxtaposition to its softly coloured, frilly predecessor for Spring 2000. Offering an altogether different take on femininity, the show, titled “Hard and Forceful,” was a celebration of punk, and was rife bondage elements, leather, studs and controversial prints.
The show closed with a punchy graphic print - as seen on these shorts - that featured lips, eyes, flowers and razor blades. The striking print was designed by Polish artist, Filip Pagowski - a friend and long-time collaborator of Rei Kawakubo who famously masterminded the now-iconic heart logo for the COMME des GARÇONS PLAY line that launched in 2002.
Pagowski's lips and blades adorned black, red and white garments and caused controversy at the time with some pieces needing to be removed from stores that considered the designs to be in poor taste.
The shorts have a certain formality to them with a very tailored and ultimately unisex feel. Constructed of a polyester/wool blend, they feature a double button closure at the waist as well as side and rear pockets. Pagowski’s prints adorn the front and back of the shorts, with the open lipped razor blade print featuring prominently in a textured yet understated black-on-black vignette.
Like other close COMME des GARÇONS collaborators, Pagowski notably walked in the SS1992 COMME des GARCONS HOMME PLUS men’s show.
