COMME des GARÇONS AW2011 Asymmetrical Twisted Knit

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

“Hybrid Fashion” was the cryptic theme of COMME des GARÇONS Autumn / Winter 2011 collection. It manifested itself in garments that were multi-dimensional; stand the model this way and you had a schoolboy jacket and pants; stand her the other way and you had a silk blouse with a sheer front and skirt bottom. The same proposition applied to the back and front view of many looks.

Volume was key in creating a stark dichotomy for Kawakubo, and many pieces, like this knit, featured unexpected twists, knots and ruffles.

In the form of a fine wool knit, the abstract concept becomes much more wearable. Gathered and ruffled fabric twists its way down from the collar to the hem of the front, with cutouts amongst them becoming apparent when worn. These ruffles create distinct asymmetry at various sections throughout the body. The fabric is stretchy and form fitting, adapting its shape and volume to its wearer. This is a typical avant-garde take on a classic silhouette from Kawakubo.
