PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Rei Kawakuabo labelled her Autumn/Winter 2009 presentation ‘Wonderland’, ‘where nothing is as it seems.’ Her models were veiled in organza face masks, and cocooned in layers of padded thick fabric, as if protecting them against the harshness of the world. There was an overarching childish innocence, manifesting itself in trompe-l'oeil coats and naked toes sketched on the uppers of men’s moccasins.

To add to the turntable of themes, ethnic blankets featured in various looks throughout; some with elaborate intarsia graphics, others with simple crosshatching and checkerboards. All of which were layered atop or under various garments, draping and jutting out elegantly, forming their own unique silhouettes.

This example, while seemingly simple, is entirely transformable and can be worn in a multitude of ways, most notably as a poncho or a skirt. Constructed from 100% wool, it has a distinctly structured drape like those on the runway when worn, accentuated by an embroidered white sparkly trim across the entirety of the bottom hem. Various buttons across the front and rear, including at the neckline/waist afford it endless options to transform effortlessly.
