Phoebe Philo’s stint at Celine was a real moment. In her 19 runway collections, Philo was able to manifest a refined vision of the modern, stylish woman. Her clothes were smart, sensitive, practical and the embodiment of luxury. Very much a status symbol for fashion’s “in” crowd, her pieces have since earned a cult-like following, and are now affectionately referred to as “old Céline.”

Philo’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection offered a new take on streamlined urban uniform dressing. Inspired by the sensibility of being a passenger in an expensive car, the clothes blended both luxury and power. Several new takes on formal and tuxedo dressing were presented in what was generally an empowering collection. In keeping with the driving metaphor, pants and coats were aplenty with elevated details, inset with leather or silk — at the waistband or down the sides as tuxedo stripes.

These pants featured in Look 6 and 34 - the show’s final look. They are constructed of a heavy moleskin and feature silk tuxedo stripes at the sides as well as linear panelling down the inseam. With a slightly flared leg, they are completed by side and rear pockets and a concealed double snap button closure.
