PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

Following on from SS2006’s ‘The Windows of Culloden’ presentation, came ‘Sarabande.’ In what was one of his most unapologetically romantic collections, McQueen appeased his thirst for the theatrical with the commercial, stripping Paris’ Cirque d'Hiver of its normal trappings to evoke an abandoned theatre, but for a single chandelier.

Accompanied by a live chamber orchestra, the collection was intimate and presented a certain refined softness McQueen had learned from his days as creative director at Givenchy. The collection’s delicate embroidery and palette of light greys, ivory and faded pinks imbued a sense of lightness that cocooned his ever-evolving idealisation of the feminine form.

This skirt, like much of the collection, is indebted to horsemanship. The front placket resembles the curve of a horseshoe with buttons tumbling down the placket’s curved edge. A narrow front pocket sits asymmetrically above the placket, while the grey glen plaid pattern featured in pants, vests and suits that were the standout commercial pieces from the runway. The skirt has an incredibly simple cut with only two darts visible at the rear, and sits above the knee. Fully lined, it has a side zip and clasp closure.

The name, ‘Sarabande’ drew inspiration from a Baroque court dance and Handel’s classical suite, Sarabande in D Minor; and also happens to be the name of McQueen’s foundation.
