PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

After consecutive atypically ‘commercial’ runway presentations, Alexander McQueen’s SS2006 show, ’The Windows of Culloden,’ marked the return of McQueen to his spectacular best.

Perhaps best known for its finale: Kate Moss dramatically appearing, projected in a cutting-edge hologram donning a ruffled organza gown; McQueen - with the help of videographer Baillie Walsh - was able to deliver one of 21st century fashion’s most defining images.

As well as referencing the romantic, punk and gothic periods, ‘The Windows of Culloden’ was once again heavily inspired by McQueen’s past. Much like in his infamous AW95 ‘Highland Rape’ show that catapulted his career, he harked back to his Scottish roots, referencing and in some ways building on the themes of ‘Highland Rape’ in an altogether different and developed portrayal of beauty and strength. Where ‘Highland Rape’ was an embodiment of dark, twisted beauty, here he presented a much more refined and elaborate take, emphasising feminine beauty rather than distracting from it.

This intricately embroidered peplum skirt features both the layering and controlled ruffles that were apparent on the runway. Constructed of heavyweight selvedge denim, the fabric enables the silhouette to hold its shape, flaring from the hip to its frayed hem. Hand-died, the acid wash colouring lends a faded effect that adds character and history to the garment. Celtic embroidery adorns the upper panel, extending from below the side pockets to the rear. Double button front fastening, belt loops complete the piece.
