Issey Miyake AW1998 Bronze Iridescent Trousers
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
Issey Miyake's Autumn/Winter 1998 “Starburst” collection was an eminent example of the brand’s innovative approach to fabric and technology. Born out of Miyake’s desire to re-use, pieces were folded and then covered in fine films of heat-pressed foil, creating a second skin of metallic paper. The result was a hyper-futuristic, alchemy-inspired collection. As ever, notions of fashion and art were intertwined.
Sharing a similar metallic sheen to their runway counterparts, these pants are constructed of a mid-weight polyester blend. Bronze but with an iridescent finish, they are long and straight, while the fabric has a slight stretch. A similar pair in the same colour featured as part of an ensemble on the runway. They are completed with a front zip and button closure, belt loops and side pockets.
An entire room was used to showcase metallic pieces from this collection at the Cartier Foundation in Paris, for the 1998 exhibition, ‘Issey Miyake: Making Things.’ Meanwhile, a metallic shirt is currently held in the collection of the The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
