Issey Miyake AW1999 Jagged Pleated Blazer

For Autumn/Winter 1999, Issey Miyake continued his exploration of architectural and abstract forms. Using his trademark pleating techniques, Miyake conjured up science-fiction inspired silhouettes that appeared to have just crash-landed on Earth from another dimension.

This blazer is an infinitely wearable, though equally architectural example from the collection. Miyake’s pleating gives the blazer an instantly recognisable look while allowing for ease of care and storage, as any excess crinkles simply become part of the design.

With all that in mind, it’s easy to see why this blazer is such an easy to wear staple - its wool/polyester blend makes it warm, though lightweight and slightly bouncy. Jagged edges lend it an unusual sculptural finish that can be dressed up for a formal occasion, or down for a carefree look all year round.
