COMME des GARÇONS SS90 Multicolour Tartan Silk Drop Crotch Shorts
An exceptionally rare and wearable piece from the Comme des Garçons SS1990 runway. Very little information on this collection has been published, however the striking tartan pattern in this piece was the centrepiece of the show, appearing in several different styles and silhouettes across multiple runway looks.
The bright fluorescent colours are a distinct departure from Rei Kawakubo’s predominantly dark, grungy approach throughout the 1980’s. The collection, according to Bernadine Morris of the New York Times, was a clear sign of Comme and the Japanese designers entering a new era.
The grid-like pattern consists of a combination of green, red, yellow and black, used in layers to create a contemporary twist on traditional tartan. The cut is wide and relaxed with a low drop crotch. Made of a mix of silk and rayon, the shorts have a uniquely delicate sheen that lends them a lightweight and lux feel.Made in Japan
