COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT Ink Splatter Pinstripe Shirt

  • c.2008

This is an interesting take on a classic "banker stripe shirt". Consisting of a strong pink base, the shirt features a red and white pinstripe. Notably, there are bluey-purple ink paint splotches splattered sporadically throughout. The shirt also features an interesting narrow pointed collar. By taking mundane office attire and transforming it into something playful, this piece is a great example of Comme des Garçons' SHIRT’s ability to reframe the classic shirt.

Debuting in 1988, Comme des Garçons SHIRT set out to offer unusual and fun takes on a typically ordinary wardrobe item. Overseen by Rei Kawakubo herself, the line is an excellent illustration of her attention to detail, whereby the study of a single silhouette can lead to the birth of an entire line of clothing.
